Excellent video that I will be sharing with A LOT of Rockets fans saying #FadeforCade. 1) tanking only guarantees reclaiming their top 4 protected pick. 2) there's likely a slim to none chance they get the first pick. 3) the odds of Cade Cunningham being a generational talent that will be capable of leading a full rebuild team to contention are even smaller than the MVP odds. I am a draft class study fanatic. It's a habit I have picked up playing games like Madden and 2k for years. I have studied this supposed "strong draft class" of 2021 and can say, in my opinion, there is no sure fire all star from appearances. By that I mean an immediate impact, take the league by storm prospect. I obviously could be wrong and maybe the 18th or 20th pick ends up being the early favorite but predicting that is near impossible. Cunningham looks to be a solid, day 1 NBA ready starter but I have watched quite a bit of tape on him. Good handle for a 6'8" player, solid passing and jump shot, looks to be a versatile defender, but has relied on bullying smaller opponents at all levels. Has decent athleticism but nothing eye popping AND is fairly slow for someone who is a full time ball handler. This is the best in class. Mobley is a close 2nd but it's hard to judge young bigs this early because he hasn't filled out and we don't know how his game will translate to the jump shot, get buckets gameplay style of the NBA just yet. He for sure does not have an AD or Durant skill set though so it will likely take time. This is why the tanking model is such a huge gamble. You are dooming your franchise to 5+ years of piss poor play and demoralizing your fan base for the chance, a poor one at that, to get that generational talent. Or even more rarely, a transformative talent. People like to point to the 76ers as a success story but leave out the fact that they had more than a few bad picks AND the tank lasted longer than expected because of injuries and the fact that several top draft picks without vets around them are generally not good at first. It remains to be seen whether it will pay off or not but by and large, the tanking model is faulty at best.

1:55 yikes I really don't like that you made this image. How are you going to pick best players? Like in some cases it's obvious but are you really shitting on kyrie like this? Is he really defintely not the best player? even in 2020, I wouldn't definetively overall pick Kawhi or Klay over him. Also, this chart would imply that 1996 was a failure, while AI was and is obviously the best choice there. Kobe wasn't going to be drafted by anyone but LA and honestly, WHO THE FUCK IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD DRAFT AN 18 YO KOBE? And isn't it waaay to soon to call Zion the best of his class? Sure he's great for now but wouldn't you be more interested in his legacy in 10 years?

I used blocks, rebounds, steals, and age to determine who had the best chance at success -- and I picked well each time. Why did I pick those stats? Because those stats tell you how good he is in comparison to other players. Points and FG% don't tell you that. You can coach and scheme some of that stuff. Plus, with the guy who spent 4 years in college and still only averaged 28ppg, that's not good. There's no way a shooting guard averaging less than 30ppg who's been in college FOUR YEARS is going to magically jump to 40ppg once he gets put in the NBA around All-star talent instead of bum college kids.

College stats are not a good measure of a player's potential to succeed in the NBA and in my opinion, there's two key reasons why. The first reason is that an NBA prospect may do well against people in college, but may be much worse off against opponents in the NBA, which have much more skill. Some people are insanely good at dominating people that are much worse than them, but their performance drops off enormously when they reach the NBA. On the other hand, there are some people that perform really well in college, but perhaps aren't the best at exploiting weaker opponents' weaknesses, so their stats don't drop as much as the previous type of opponent when they play in the NBA. The second reason is team chemistry. Some players end up in a setup that just doesn't work for them or isn't like what they experienced in college. Team chemistry can make huge differences in how well players can play. For example, a college star may have really good, but inflated stats if everyone is just his puppet and play according to him. In the NBA, this strategy won't work and will harm the team, so it won't be adopted. As such, the player won't perform as well as statistics predict. I think there's a long way for maths and computer science to go when it comes to making the best picks, but there's only so much you can do with garbage information like college stats. Algorithms need to look further than just those stats. I'm also editing to say that this isn't to mean that college stats should be overlooked completely or that all stats are bad. Some stats have shown relatively high levels of predictive power while some show none. I'm just saying that there's a lot of things that are required to predict who the best player will be (even things like injury) and college stats are typically not enough to make a conclusive decisions. There are more stats that need to be considered and that are considered. Also as a final edit, I wanted to say that first draft picks aren't at picking the best player in a league as they seem. The reason why they pick the best player so few times is because teams lean towards bigger players like centers and forwards over guards. This is because centers' and forwards' performances are easier to predict and less volatile than guards'. Not to mention that guards also have shorter careers on average and get injured more often (mostly shooting guards), which means there might be less of a long-term plan with their superstar. So even if a team thinks that a guard may be better than a center for their team, they might lean towards the center just because it's a safer pick. It's a risk-reward thing. This was especially true in the past when prediction technology was even worse. However, if a guard is much better than any center that year, only then will they end up being first pick.

I don't understand how it's so hard. If I was a gm making a pick. I'd focus more on the players personality than their stats. Sure I'd want them to have decent or good stats but it wouldn't be required. The most important thing to me would be to find a player who has a fire lit in his soul for winning, who works on his game relentlessly/is a student of the game. Someone who coachable and looks to learn more about how basketball is played instead of just using their talents and abilities to dominate. These are the types of players who become superstars. Players like Kobe, MJ, Harden, Wade, Steph, Bird, Hakeem, Lebron, Giannis, Kwahi, Butler, Chris Paul, Tatum. The only time I would take someone who doesn't have the will of fire burning would be for freaks of nature aka shaq or wilt.

deni avdija man .. he would probably end up as the best in his class also, you wanna base your pick on stats whem you should focus on state of mind.. many players that end up top 3 succumb from the pressure of expectations .. many only want the money that comes from playing im the nba, and when they get their first million they stop carrying aboug basketball .. on those two groups add those players that are easily distracted by non-basketball stuff and you would end up with an easier choice .. or if you still arent sure, pick the best defender (not the best defensive stats, mind). if he is willing to chase around players to lock them up, he would probably be easier to handle in any team

When someone said isolate "x" out the equation, they are meaning to operate both sides and create a new equation that is simple to understand, but still right, using the se example, x-12=5: x-12=5; let's add 12 to both sides, If I sum both sides by the same amount, the equation would still be right and gives the same result. x-12+12 = 5+12; -12+12=0; 5+12=17 x=17.

And about all of the players you've mentioned: Dwight, JR, Josh and Bynum were draft after 2003, ao after LeBron set the highschool sensation time in the NBA. Chandler were the higher draft coming at second and he was considering a bust for most of his career until he joined New Orleans, DeShawn Stevenson was picked at 23 and is 7; 2 and 1,5 for.his career, not a player that can change the course of NBA draft history, KG went 5 and he was a 10 ppg as a rookie, Lewis was a second round pick and put 2 ppg as a rookie, Amare was the best rookie with 13 ppg but he was draft only 9 overall, Jermaine, Kobe and TMac were bench players on their rookie seasons, LeBron was the first player draft first overall without college experience that really turned on a superstar early on, the rest of the high schoolers that turned out good we're players not draft number on and that take a while to develop, while LeBron had a monster rookie season, LeBron start the "draft younger players with potential high on the draft so you can't miss the chance of drafting a super star" trend.

The case here was picking a promissor Young talent that shows a lot of potential with a higher first rounder pick, LeBron was the first player to be picked first overall without college experience, and then for the next 6 years, 5 others players would be drafted first overall without college experience just based on their potential, and LeBron was the only that stood out in his rookie season, any other high schooler took a while to develop, LeBron was the first one to be named rookie of the year without played college ball, and I think he still the only one, of course other players were amazing as well, but Jermaine, Kobe, T-Mac, KG and others high schoolers were just rotational players earlier in their careers, LeBron came in crushing the competition (Except for Carmelo who had a good case to ROY as well), so yeah, that was a trading that starts with LBJ

#1 overall picks have weeks to make a choice so while the last line was catchy it doesn’t make much sense

I disagree with the years 83 and 84, 08,09 & 07!!! Those were good picks but fate conspired against most of them. For instance nobody would've guessed the injury prone unathletic point guard would be better than the monstrously athletic Blake griffin

Dude said Zion is the best player in the 2019 draft less then a year after the draft..... may look like it now but too early to tell, it’s even debatable rn to say Ja is better

There are many factors that can make the selection go wrong outside of the player's talent. The teammates, the coach, and the culture of the franchise that the player got drafted in. These are factors that could ruin a superstar potential's career. He could be the actual best in the draft but hey, isn't the team that drafted him had the opportunity to a lottery pick because the team sucked the whole season? All rookies are young and are still in their potential level coming in as pros, right? Then the teams that sucked the most will have a chance to pick the real best potentials but because of the above mentioned factors, the teams stunt their growth and eventually ruin their careers.

Why did they rate his jumpsuit so high when he shot less than 40 percent from the field and less then 30 percent from downtown. His shot in a lot of attempts was flat. So they give him an 8 when he has not earned it.

Iverson was the first round pick and player college ball in Georgetown, but Kobe was without a doubt the best player of that draft.
